Hello and welcome to my first blog post on this blog. My name is Oskar Eggert and I am a 24-year-old from Sweden. I am an M.Sc. student at Chalmers University of Technology, but currently, I am on an exchange to Trinity College Dublin. I am excited to share my writing with you all!

Today I tweeted about what my goals are for my 25th year on Earth. Yesterday was my 24th birthday and it did not really feel too special for me, but then I came across a podcast episode of My First Million with Steph Smith. Steph is currently a podcast host at a16z and dove into her website. On her website, she has a dashboard that clearly states her yearly goals and her progress towards them. This form of transparency and accountability resonated with me.

I have often tried to become more of a "maker" or creator. I started a blog and for while wrote on Medium, I have also tried to learn how to code well many times, my issue is consistency. I never quite get there. As many of you know consistency is the key to compounding. Compounding is something we humans have a hard time understanding but what it means is that small changes over a long time can have a huge impact.

“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't, pays it” -Albert Einstein

The timing of this episode was great. I had just begun my 25th year of life and even though I would not say I am having a quarter-life crisis it reminds you that life is finite. Because of this, I set out to create goals of my own, and to hold myself accountable I publically stated them with the intention of publically tracking my progress.

As you can see in the tweet above, one of my goals was to create a personal website and that is the site you are visiting, this is also the first blog post of many to come. This was an easy goal to cross off and hopefully will create momentum for me to succeed in accomplishing the others which I believe will be a bit more challenging.

What to Expect Going Forward

This will be the main place I share my progress on my goals for the year, but it will also be my personal blog where I share things that interest me, my experiences, my travels, and things that I have learned about recently. Topics I hope to write about in a near future are the circular economy and how circularity can be a big key in building a sustainable world and my experiences as an Erasmus student in Dublin, Ireland. I encourage you to interact with me and the content if anything interests you.

The blog will not be great at first, but that is not the point for me. The point is the action of writing a weekly blog post and pressing publish. Building the habit of writing will give me experience and practice, which in turn will translate to better writing. In the meantime writing posts like these helps me clarify my thinking and it is extremely valuable in itself to me. I hope this inspires some of you to start sharing your thoughts and stories with the world!
